Matilda and Peter were my grandmother (Vondell) parents. Her house burned to the ground in the 1960,s and everything was lost except Sammy, he was bed ridden with bone cancer and had to be removed on a hospital bed. I have the family Bible from her that was presented to her in 1964. It is spotty at best. I would love a copy of the bible pages. Also any information on Vondell would be awesome. I know her first name is Nolan, but have no idea where it cam from. my address is 5840 Opaline Dr. Waterford, MI 48327. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Aunt Winnie was an awesome woman, I will remember her kindness forever.

The Journal of Urban History
What was the vision of urban history when the journal was founded (take a look at the inaugural issue)?
Looking at recent issues, how has that vision both been realized and altered?
What newer themes do scholars of urban history address?
In the inaugural issue, Raymond A. Mohl of Florida Atlantic University wrote that the Journal of Urban History had been established to provide urban scholars with a forum for interpretation and new research. As a new area of study, the editors were willing to encourage any lines of study that might provide more information on urban history. The editors did not intend to restrict research by time period or location. Room is left to chart new avenues of historical research.
Some of my favorite articles were actually written in the first volumes. “Tracing Those Who Left” was printed in the first issue, and outlined the problems researchers faced when attempting to follow or link people in the 1880 and 1900 census records. Genealogy research would have been a tremendous labor with no name indexes. Without exhaustive searches through each census manuscript looking for a certain individual, connections would have been slow and very few. Contrasted with today’s genealogy research, this particular article reminds me how fortunate we are to have technology and the ease in which we can now search through census manuscripts.
Several of the earlier articles in the Journal of Urban History were written about the physical aspects of cities, but moved toward broader topics like art in cities, the carceral environment of cities, and reasons people from rural environments were attracted to cities. International topics are still found in the Journal and I think that in addition to their continued presence international authors should also be given space and perspective.

Funeral services for Mrs. Edna C. Palmer, 44, mother of Mrs. Mason Baker of Purvis, were held Monday, February 18 at 3 p.m. at the Wellman Chapel in Shreveport, La.
Mrs. Palmer died suddenly at home in Shreveport Saturday.
Officiating at the service were Rev. Jack Moore, pastor of the Life Tabernacle Church of Shreveport, and rev. Lyle Palmer, associate pastor. Burial was in Centuries Memorial Park in Shreveport.
She was born in Houston, Tex. and lived in Lumberton while her husband was associated with Gulf Oil Company. She had lived in Shreveport off and on for a number of years.
Survivors included her husband, Frank H. Palmer, Sr. of Shreveport; three sons, Frank, Fred, and Timothy; two daughters, Mrs. Mason Baker of Purvis, and Peggy of Shreveport; her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Crawford, Sr.; three brothers and one sister.

Don Larson with truck
My mother drove this truck after she and Don got together. She would drive it to Berryville and make a collect call to call me and Morgan. Once we drove it to Frankston and the tire had a huge bubble on the side. She was afraid the tire would pop the whole drive. She kept saying how embarrassed she was. Usually when we would ride in this truck to town, it would be very low on gas, to the point where she would talk about running out of gas.
Later, she gave the truck to my cousin, Corey Wilson.

Funeral services for Lewis E. Larson, 79, of Frankston were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, in the Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Jacksonville with the Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating.
Burial was in the Reese Cemetery.
Mr. Larson died in a Jacksonville hospital Wednesday, Jan 9, after a short illness.
He was born Oct. 12, 1911 in Cherokee County, having lived most of his life at Reese before moving to Frankston in 1968. Mr. Larson was a retired farmer-dairyman and a veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian Larson and a son Ronnie Larson.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Larson and Don Larson of Frankston; three sisters, Mrs. Beula May and Mrs. Gwendolyn Lake of Reese, and Mrs. Grace Loper of Jacksonville; one granddaughter, Breann Larson of Flint; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Herbert Riley, Edward Reagan, Hubert Lewis, Jimmy Lewis, Gary Lewis, Alvin Shattuck and Larry Coker.

Graveside services for Don Larson, 38, of Frankston were held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 28, at the Reese Cemetery with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating. Services were under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Frankston.
Mr. Larson died Monday, July 24, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 29, 1961 in Jacksonville.
Mr. Larson was a rancher and dairyman and a member of the Assembly of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewie and Lillian Larson, and brother, Ronnie Larson.
Survivors include his wife, Candy Larson of Frankston; a son, Emanuel Rane Larson of Frankston; a daughter, Lianna Wyatt Larson; a brother, Randy Larson of Tyler; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Graveside services for Don Larson, 38, of Frankston were held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 28, at the Reese Cemetery with Rev. J.A. Griffin officiating. Services were under the direction of Thompson Funeral Home in Frankston.
Mr. Larson died Monday, July 24, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 29, 1961 in Jacksonville.
Mr. Larson was a rancher and dairyman and a member of the Assembly of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewie and Lillian Larson, and brother, Ronnie Larson.
Survivors include his wife, Candy Larson of Frankston; a son, Emanuel Rane Larson of Frankston; a daughter, Lianna Wyatt Larson; a brother, Randy Larson of Tyler; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Otis Allen Smith, 69, of Mexia, passed away on April 8, 2011 at the Mexia LTC in Mexia. A memorial service was held for family and friends on Saturday, April 16, 2011.
Mr. Allen was born on October 10, 1941 in Lost Prairie, Texas to Otis and Edna Matthews Smith. He was a farmer there in the Lost Prairie community for many years.
Otis was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Thelma Hinchliffe and a brother, Carl Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Lisa Smith of Mexia; children, Allan Smith of Beville, Texas and Jeff Smith, Paul Smith and Scott Smith of Louisiana; step sons, Thomas Raue & Michael Raue of Mexia; step daughter, LaQuita Ayres of Clifton; seven grandchildren and a sister, Patsy Larue & husband, Ronnie, of Ana, Texas.

MEXIA - A 25-year old native Corsicana woman was shot and killed at 1:45 a.m. today following an agrument with a man in Mexia. Mrs. Frances Ann Walker, 25, native of Corsicana and resident of Mexia, was shot with a 12-gauge shotgun in the left chest. The Mexia Police Department reported that Otis Allen Smith, 35, resident of 203 West Hopkins, Mexia, is being held in the Mexia City Jail on charge of murder. Bond was set at $10,000 by Judge Opaline Bonner, who ordered an autopsy. The man will be transported to the limestone County Jail. Police report that the shooting occurred during an argiunent at the home of Smith’s mother. Services for Mrs. Walker will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Corley Funeral Home Chapel in Corsicana. Burial will follow at Eureka Cemetery. • Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Andrews of Corsicana; two brothers, Larry Andrews of Corsicana and Ronald Andrews of Forney; and her grandmother, Mrs.' May Boyte of Irving.

Four weeks ago the family of M.M. Smith was strickened with flu, then the Mother, Mrs. M.M. Smith's flu developed into pneumonia from which she died last Saturday, the 12th. The community and many friends elsewhere will be saddened by her death. She was a useful Christian and loved by all. We sincerely sympathize with the loved ones.
